The true crime...

You all hear about the record profits being recorded by those "big bad evil greedy neocon" oil companies.  The press is quick to jump all over the quarterly profits being reported. You know,  those profits paid to the  stockholders, and the same earned by companies employing thousands of people paying taxes.  Yet, the mob continues the attack on big oil profits.  Think about this... see, what the energy producer is allowed to keep to distribute to shareholders...is a drop in the bucket compared to the government "booty".

Just the federal gas tax gives Uncle Samantha 18.5 cents per gallon.  The oil companies eek out about 7.5 cents per gallon.  Shoot, that's more than twice as much.  Now add the other taxes (Colorado has 22.5 cents a gallon added)...it's a pretty good chunk of change.

See, those government folks not only got  the tax on the profit and the gasoline sales, they also pilfered revenue from oil and gas leases, severance taxes, tariffs, import tax,  and so on. The real picture is that the government takes more than the companies are "allowed" to earn.

Now...think about this, okay?  Exxon makes14bn on WORLDWIDE operations, they paid a corporate tax alone of over 13 billion to the good ol Uncle Samantha. That's $13,000,000.00 for 3 months of doing "nothin but obstructing"!  Now, think about the payroll taxes from those Exxon employed.   How about the gas tax?  Do some math, 8.1 million barrels of oil a day we use,  that's 388.6 million gallons of gas a day x .185 cents a gallon.  The gas tax alone brings in 71 million dollars a day, or  $6,900,000,000.00  billion per quarter to the government coffer.  ( notice I haven't mentioned diesel, kerosene or natural gas taxes, sales taxes, payroll taxes on of those all that work in the industry, or the corporate taxes collected from the other oil companies, check it out here)

The bottom line to me, Manny can is...when you add up all the governments "booty", take, cut,  or whatever you want to call it... it's way more than what that one oil company earns. (off of worldwide operations mind you!)

But who's really payin?  US!   Now,  Manny asks "why aren't any of them smart media people reportin this?"

Here look,  it gets even trickier.  If you divide the Exxon's profit by the percentage of it that was generated just here in the states, (it's about 15%) about 3 billion off of US operations and sales.  At the same time, our government has reaped at least 20 billion during the same time off that company's efforts (if not more).  Manny figures that them government folks while complaining about how much money the oil companies earn, get at least 5 times as much as what they're naggin about.  Now, here's a big one me the "talkin dummy" is asking...just where is that money going?

Now mind you, that oil company employs thousands, pays into the publics retirement, and works hard to fuel our economy.  Our government does nothing and wastes the money they do take to fight, thwart, stall and choke our energy production and out economy.   The way I see it is that business has to earn our money, government just coerces it or takes what they want.  The same government that wants to nationalize oil and energy production, and tell you and I how we must live to "keep the world from catchin fire".

What Manny wants to know is why them press people totally ignores the government "booty" and continues to  add fuel to the "hate oil" campaign much like they did the "hate Bush " propaganda.  Let me tell you, if a talkin dummy can see through some of this stuff, so can you.

The energy business is a cash cow for our government, even with subsidies.  Their systematic obstruction of the very thing that generates revenue for them, and attempting to seize what the hard working companies earn on top of it, makes no sense at all.   Manny figures they're either they're real dense, real greedy, or there has to be another reason behind this lunacy.

Now do you see why me, Manny Can is doing what I'm doing here?
